Leasing enables Grade 2 listed school to fit Flotex
Sandford Primary School in Devon was built in 1825. The Grade Two listed building currently houses 170 pupils. Not unusually, Sandford struggles to juggle its finances and was keen to take advantage of a scheme enabling it to spread the cost of new floorcoverings.
“We were very quickly won over by the benefits of Flotex,” commented Sandra Caley, deputy head at Sandford. “Previous installations convinced us Flotex would retain its appearance longer than carpet, but it was going to be difficult to be able to afford to purchase it outright.” However, a meeting with LHE Education Finance brought a solution. LHE had recently established a leasing scheme for Flotex, enabling schools to install the floorcovering and then pay for it over a number of years. Tamsin Emery from LHE explained: “Schools are already used to the concept of leasing equipment such as computers. We felt there was no reason why the same principle couldn’t be applied to flooring.” She continued: “Flotex is an excellent product to lease. It retains its appearance well and is highly durable, so if schools pay for it over three, four or even five years, they can be confident it will continue to look good years after the repayments have finished.” Sandra Caley was delighted. “We couldn’t believe how good the deal was. It meant we could refurbish all the classrooms at the same time and then plan the repayments into our budget over the next three years.” The leasing scheme is very flexible to meet the needs of individual schools and payments can be made monthly, termly or annually. As Tamsin Emery stated, “We liaise closely with the school to agree a repayment plan that is right for them.” Using Flotex has also brought additional benefits to Sandford Primary School – the classrooms look better and are much easier to clean. Space in the classrooms is also maximised by replacing delineating strips of vinyl with Flotex.
